ALDI Statement Regarding Peanut Butter Products Recall
ALDI has two suppliers who manufacture the Cambridge cheese crackers with peanut butter, one of which is Kellogg’s. As a precautionary measure, as of Jan. 15 ALDI and Kellogg’s voluntarily recalled the Kellogg-produced peanut butter crackers due to industry reports of salmonella at affiliated plants, though no illnesses have been reported regarding these Kellogg-manufactured products. The second manufacturer of our cheese crackers with peanut butter does not use the peanut plant where the salmonella outbreak was reported. However, as a further precautionary measure, as of Jan.20 ALDI has recalled the additional Cambridge cheese crackers with peanut butter as well as our Grandessa peanut butter cookies.
To tell the difference between the two manufacturers of Cambridge cheese crackers with peanut butter, customers should look at the net weight on the front of the package of crackers. A net weight of 7.44 oz (210 grams) was produced by Kellogg’s while a net weight of 7 1/3 oz (208 grams) was produced by our second manufacturer.
All other ALDI peanut products or products that contain peanuts or a peanut paste have not been the subject of concern regarding potential salmonella poisoning.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Supreme Protein, Inc. is updating its announcement that it is voluntarily recalling the lots identified below of Supreme Protein® brand Peanut Butter Crunch Bars and Caramel Nut Bars. These bars are being recalled out of an abundance of caution because they contain peanut paste which has the potential of being exposed to Salmonella at the Georgia manufacturing facility that makes this ingredient. Supreme Protein requests that consumers check the lot numbers of any of the above-listed products they have purchased. The lot number can be found under the fold on the back of the wrapper of the individual bars and on top of each box of bars. If consumers find that they have these products in their possession marked with any of these specific lot numbers, they are asked not to consume the products. Consumers seeking a replacement or refund for recalled products should visit the company’s website at www.supremeprotein.com. Other lot numbers of Supreme Protein products are not affected by this recall. Supreme Protein intends to update this notice as the situation develops.

General Mills announced today a voluntary recall of LÄRABAR Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars and JamFrakas Peanut Butter Blisscrisp flavor snack bars because peanut butter in the products was sourced from Peanut Corporation of America, and may be contaminated with salmonella.

Labette County Commissioner Brian Kinzie stood on the stage of an auditorium in Fayetteville, Ark., last Thursday afternoon, preparing for a Cross Canadian Ragweed concert.
Kinzie’s son, Brian, is the production manager for the well-known band and Kinzie’s assistant, Joel Schoepf, was engaged in conversation with them when Schoepf’s cell phone rang.
He stepped off stage to talk with his wife who was calling from New York. Joel immediately motioned for the father-and-son Kinzies to come over where he was standing.
“That was my wife, Robin,” said Schoepf. “She was in an airplane crash in New York and was just rescued from the Hudson River.”
Commissioner Kinzie said he rushed to the bus to tell band members but they already were watching live coverage of the crash on television.
“Joel was pretty shaken up,” said Kinzie. “He had just talked to her on the phone a little earlier and she told him she was taking a flight out of Newark for San Antonio.”
Kinzie said Robin Schoepf was not talking much about the crash, but obviously everyone in the Randy Rogers Band, Cross Canadian Ragweed and the 36D Management Company were thrilled that Robin and all other passengers made it off the flight alive.
Robin Schoepf is manager of the Randy Rogers Band which had appeared on the David Letterman Show the previous night.
The City of Parsons received notification that it received its first half of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) entitlement for $154,224.
According to Representative Lynn Jenkins office in Washington, D.C., the FAA began notifying funding recipients yesterday regarding the first half of funding for 2009.
“Each year, the City of Parsons receives entitlement dollars from the FAA,” said Martha Wilkerson, Planning and Zoning Administrator. “We have elected to pool our funds from the past few years in order to go ahead with Phase III of our airport project.”
That project includes reconstruction of the north portion of the terminal apron at Tri-City Airport. The City of Parsons recently submitted a grant request for Phase III of the project, which will reconstruct the remaining portion of the terminal apron using discretionary funds from the FAA.
The City of Parsons has $360,000 of discretionary funding banked with the FAA. A grant application has been filed with the FAA for an additional $559,000 toward the Phase III reconstruction project. Phase III is reliant on discretionary funds from the FAA.
The FAA entitlement grant is a 95 percent federally funded program with the City of Parsons match being only five percent. The City of Parsons utilizes the grant funds such as this to maintain the Tri-City Airport.
