Celebrations centered on the Class of 2008 will begin this Sunday with the first area Baccalaureate service.

Labette County High School will hold Baccalaureate at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 11, in Harrison Auditorium. Oswego High School will have a 7 p.m. service on Wednesday, May 14, held at the Oswego Christian Church. Chetopa High School’s Baccalaureate will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18.

Graduations are scheduled for the May 16-18 weekend with Labette Community College holding their commencement at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 16, in Parsons Municipal Auditorium. The next graduation will be Oswego High School at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 17. Labette County High School will graduate their seniors at 8 p.m., Saturday, at Harrison Auditorium.

On Sunday, May 18, Welch High School will hold commencement at 2 p.m. in Wild Cat Gym. Chetopa High School will hold commencement at 4 p.m. in the new gym followed by the junior high school graduation at 6 p.m.

Come join the fun as Chetopa celebrates its 23rd annual Spring Fling this Saturday with a day of music, food, crafts, and more.

The day will start off with a Pancake Feed hosted by the Masons and held at the Masonic Lodge on the corner of 4th and Locust Streets. Pancakes will be served from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Line up for the parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the school parking lot with the parade set to start at 11 a.m.

At noon, there will be a free bean feed in Veterans’ Memorial Park by the Neosho River. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the day. There will be live entertainment from noon to 2 p.m. as well as an Antique Tractor Show going on during the day.

Vendors will be set up in the park with concessions, crafts and other items for sale.

Larry L. Holtz

OSWEGO—Larry L. Holtz, 74, of Oswego, Kan., died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Labette Health in Parsons.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at the Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Syd Smith, Rev. Paul Wiand and Rev. Fred Gates officiating. Mr. Holtz was cremated.

Murdock Funeral Home of Oswego is in charge of arrangements.

Manny Walker

OSWEGO—“Manny” Maurice C. Walker, 83, a lifetime member of the Oswego, Kan., community died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 8, at the Oswego Cemetery with Rev Paul Wiand officiating. Friends may call at the Murdock Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7.

Murdock Funeral Home of Oswego is in charge of arrangements.
