Labor Day festivities to be held in Severy
Severy will be a whirl of activity Aug. 29 - Sept. 1. The annual Labor Day celebration begins downtown, Friday, Aug. 29, at 8:30 p.m. with a free family movie complete with complimentary popcorn. Everyone should bring blankets and lawn chairs.
On Saturday, Aug. 30 there will be a fishing derby at Severy Lake, from 8 to 11 a.m. A co-ed mud volleyball tournament starts at 11 a.m. downtown. All teams must pre-register by calling Nicole Hardenbrook at 620-736-1137. A street dance is scheduled for downtown from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m., featuring Terry Crane and the Country Heartbeats.
Sunday evening a co-ed softball fun game will be played at the ball diamond. Anyone who wants to play, just show up.
Labor Day, Sept. 1:
• West Elk FFA will host a breakfast from 7 - 9 a.m. at the Severy Senior Center.
• Car show registration 8 - 10 a.m. at Main and Kansas - Contact Larry Wilson at 620-736-1101.
• The parade line-up starts at 9 a.m.
• Car show - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
• The parade begins at 10 a.m. with Bob and Cleo Weyrauch as Grand Marshalls. Contact Estel Knapp at 620-736-2883 for parade and general information.
• Following the parade: turtle races, a hay toss and a hay scramble are planned on Kansas Street.
• Talent Contest - 1 p.m. - Contact Lesa Schroeder at 620-736-2365
• Bingo - 1 p.m.
• Lawn Tractor Pull - 2 p.m.
• Other afternoon activities include: kids foot races, games, dunk tank and moon walk.
• The Amateur Contest winners and the Gloryland Quartet will provide entertainment at 6 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.
