Texie Pauline Roberts passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney. She was 84 years of age and a resident of rural Caney. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, with Pastor David Bycroft officiating. Christy Fellows and Joy Armstrong sang “In The Garden” and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder.” The casket bearers were Caleb Roberts, Joshua Roberts, Edward Theiss, Wesley Theiss, Michael Theiss and Paul Benson. IRWIN JOHNSON -
Irwin Virgil Johnson passed away on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at the Park West Plaza in Wichita. He was 78 years of age and a former resident of Severy. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at the Severy United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles Cryderman officiating. Virginia King was the organist. Recordings were played of “I’ll Fly Away” and “Well Done My Child.” The casket bearers were Gene Kelly, Ken Kelly, Estal Knapp, Slim Pettyjohn, Larry Wilson and Bob Wright. Graveside services followed at the Greeley Township Cemetery in Mount Hope. A memorial has been established with the Severy United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. Earl Lynn Bonner, age 55, a resident of Longton, passed away in a hayfield on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008 in the Buxton area. Lois Charlene Jacot passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney. She was 73 years of age and a former resident of Moline. uneral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Robin Haines of the Flint Hills Assembly of God officiating. Recorded selections were played of “Holes in the Floor of Heaven” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” The casket bearers were Dwight Winn, Bob Winn, Frank Winn, Gary Landon, Terry Forcum and Rob Riggin. Earl L. Bonner of Longton, 55, died Aug. 4, 2008 from injuries sustained in a farming accident. MADGE RANKIN -
Madge Inez Rankin passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield. She was 96 years of age and a former resident of Longton. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Christian Community Church of Longton with Pastor Dave Sanchez and Pastor Mike Dershem officiating. June Kramer was the pianist with congregational singing of “Whispering Hope”, “In The Garden” and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”. Ann Dutton played a violin selection of “Keep on the Sunny Side of Life”. Madge’s grandchildren were the casket bearers. Interment was held at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas. Memorials have been established with the Longton Historical Society, Longton Christian Community Church, Winfield Public Library and the Cowley County Humane Society. Arline L. Fisher, 86, of Winfield, died Thursday, July 22, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Winfield.
Graveside memorial services were held Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at the Elkader Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa. Donald Lee McNown passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at his home in Towanda, Kan. He was 76 years of age. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ with Rev. Denise Sawyer officiating. Charla McNown was the pianist with congregational hymns of “Blessed Assurance” and “When We All Get To Heaven.” The pallbearers were Paul “Pappy” Jacot, Charles Hanna, George Hayden, Ed Rando, Daryl Winters and Dean Winters. Graveside services were held on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Moline Cemetery in Moline with Rev. Mark Davis of the Cedar Vale Baptist Church officiating. Military funeral honors were conducted by the United States Navy and “Amazing Grace” was played on bagpipes. Memorials have been established with the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ and the Good Shepherd Hospice of Wichita. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. DOUGLAS GERDING -
Douglas Christopher Gerding died on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from injuries received in an auto accident west of the Elk County and Montgomery County line on U.S. 160. He was 36 years of age and a resident of rural Elk Falls. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, with Pastor Robin Haines of the Flint Hills Assembly of God officiating. Betty Russell will be the organist. Recorded selections will be played of “Amazing Grace” and several songs by Garth Brooks. The casket bearers will be Brian Beaumont, Justin Hall, Loren Hall Jr., Bud Kill, Mack Kill and Brian Welch. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and during this time the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Interment will be held at the Longton Cemetery in Longton. The Douglas Gerding Memorial Fund has been established at the Bank of Longton for the benefit of his children. Robert Franklin Todd passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. He was 82 years of age and a resident of Grenola. Graveside memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Gridley Cemetery near Gridley, with Lloyd G. Zimmerman officiating. JACK MOORE -
Jack Lavern Moore, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Aiken, S.C., died June 6, 2008 from a sudden heart attack. A private memorial will be held this summer in San Diego, Calif. ELWOOD MILLER -
Holly Elwood Miller passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Howard Twilight Manor in Howard. He was 95 years of age and a lifetime resident of Howard. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Robin Haines of the Flint Hills Assembly of God officiating. Edith Loraine Lewis passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. She was 71 years of age and a former resident of Moline. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Reed Cemetery near Halfway, Mo., with Ryan Shackelford speaking at the service. Dorothy Jean Andrade passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at her home in Chautauqua. She was 69 years of age and a former operator of the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter. Graveside services were held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Oak Hill Cemetery near Chautauqua with Pastor Vern Richerson of Hospice Care of Kansas officiating. A memorial has been established with the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter of Sedan. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. JANIE CRISP MEMORIAL SERVICE -

Carl Gene Kitchens passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Via Christi, St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. He was 47 years of age and a resident of Howard.
