By Velva Hoyt
The Elk County Free Fair will be held at the Longton Fair Grounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 31, Aug. 1-2.
You can get fair books and posters at Longton and Elk County businesses to see what is going on and to check to see what you can bring to the fair.
This is the year for the 4-H Fair to be in Longton so we will have three very busy days.
All exhibits are to be checked in between 8 and 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31. Judging will follow at 10 a.m.
The Fair Building will be closed during the judging so the judges and superintendents can get their work completed. After the judging is completed you will be able to check and see all of the ribbons.
The foot races will be each afternoon at the ball park. There will be turtle races before the foot races on Friday.
Bingo games can be enjoyed each evening during the fair.
The Free Barbecue will be on Friday evening at 6 p.m. with the Jamboree entertaining you while you are waiting and eating.
After the barbecue will be the food auction to benefit the fair. Contact Richard Hanks at 620-642-6061 if you want to donate something for the auction.
The Hebb Rodeo Company Rodeo will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. Entries will be taken at 620-374-2772 between 7 and 8 p.m. on Monday, July 28. There will be added money at both performances.
Lots of 4-H activities are happening during the fair. Thursday morning will be checking in, 4-H consultation and judging of the indoor exhibits. Other activities include: beef fitting and showing and judging; judging of bucket calves; adult round robin; judging of rabbits and poultry; fitting and showing and judging of sheep, goats and swine; 4-H round robin; and the 4-H/FFA livestock premium sale.
