Hutchinson announces candidacy for District Magistrate
Kristin Coble Hutchison of Howard has announced her candidacy for the office of District Magistrate. Her name will appear on both the August and November ballots.
Hutchison and her husband, Dr. Rob Hutchison, M.D., recently moved back to their home community in Elk County after many years of living in Emporia.
She is a 1975 graduate of West Elk High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College then graduated from the Kansas University School of Law in 1983 with a juris doctorate.
Hutchison is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, Elk County Bar Association, Lyon County Bar Association and Kansas Municipal Judges’ Association.
She has worked for 25 years in the legal field and spent 15 years as a municipal judge, also serving as a district court judge pro-tem.
Hutchison has worked as a public defender and prosecuting attorney and has experience in civil and criminal law, child custody mediation and juvenile law.
Most of their married lives, she and Rob lived in Emporia where she maintained an active law practice in Lebo and Emporia, and he operated a busy family medical practice. Rob also is a graduate of West Elk High School.
“Returning to Elk County has enriched our lives in so many ways,” said Hutchison. “After recuperating from a long illness, Rob now has a busy family practice clinic in Howard. I have continued to work in the legal field and am enjoying gardening and community events.”
“I believe that with my experience, I can make a positive contribution to our judicial district as a district magistrate judge and I would greatly appreciate your vote.”
The Hutchisons have two daughters: Megan, a USC graduate who now resides in the Kansas City area, and Leah, a fourth year student at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
Her parents are Virginia Coble and the late Gene Coble of rural Howard.
