LaForge & Budd Construction Co., was awarded the low and complete bid at Monday’s county commission meeting, for the Scott Road improvement project.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Sandy Krider and Bob Chambers of Cook, Flatt & Strobel, Topeka, was present to give their recommendation to the board.
Last week Cook, Flatt & Strobel, engineering firm, was granted the estimated enginering bid of $652,346.50 for the Scott Road project.
The bid was for $589,540 and will be paid out of Grant Plains Development Authority Scott Road fund.
Ann Charles, representing GPDA, said they had received formal approval from the Army for the road easement project.
This road is a major entrance to the industrial park.
IN OTHER ACTION:
• Laura Moore was granted pay request #9 on the Osage Fire Dept./Community Center project at Dennis, in the amount of $10,988. This is a drawn-down on their account to pay bills. Moore said the red iron is complete and the sheeting should have started Saturday on the building.
• Tom Macaronas and Brock Sutherland of Labette Health, made a request to start bid proceedings on a gravity flow sewer line to be located on the campus of Labette Health. The commissioners approved the request and the bids must be received by Tuesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. A copy of the bid request legal is in this edition.
• County Appraiser Dave Loiselle gave the commission an update on the evaluation process and the preliminary study of last year. He said valuation notices have been sent out. He advised that if people are upset with the valuation, they need to talk to the appraiser’s office. Set up a hearing process and show your reasoning for a change in their figures. They request you come in early for an informal meeting.
• Commission received a letter stating that the CDBG Community Improvement Grant for $400,000 for the mental health center project showed the local contribution was $1,499,745 and total estimate project was $1,899,745. The new project will be located in Parsons.
