SAEDC to host barbecue cook-off

The Sedan Area Economic Development Committee (SAEDC) will host a BBQ Cook-Off on July 19, at the Kurtis Arts Plaza. The fun begins at 10 a.m., with games and an art show.

During the event, a watermelon eating contest will be held, a concession stand with Mexican food will be open, as well as a beer and pop garden.

The BBQ contestants can enter up to four categories of meats, which will include beef brisket, pork ribs, pork shoulder and chicken. Each team will be responsible to provide a minimum of five pounds of meat in each category that they enter, plus two gallons of beans. Type of beans are teams choice.

The entry fee for participation is $25 per meat category. Meats will be judged beginning at 4 p.m., by a panel of judges with the beans being Peoples Choice Award. Anyone wishing to enter can pick up an entry form at Floyd’s Supermarket or by calling Terry Ricketts. Entry forms can be mailed to you if needed.

A bracelet purchased for $6 will allow visitors to taste the meat and beans and enjoy the live music and art exhibits. Children under 10 years of age are free.

After the 4 p.m. judging join in on the watermelon eating contest and enjoy live music provided by Black Widow from 5 to 9 p.m.

Be sure to make a donation for a chance to win a gas grill, wicker furniture, Emmett Kelly Jr., train, or butcher block table. Donations are $2 for one chance or $5 for three chances and may be made at Floyd’s Supermarket, Mel’s General Store, First National Bank, or from any of the following SAEDC board members.
