Exhibitors numbers on the grow at Cherryvale Youth Fair
Kicking off the summer fair season this week is the Cherryvale Youth Fair, where the volume of livestock entries has forced fair officials to find more shelters for livestock.
The fair began Wednesday, July 9, and continues through Saturday at Cherryvale’s Logan Park. Dubbed the “Biggest little fair in Kansas,” the event has drawn dozens of youth exhibitors, including many from Labette County.
As of Monday, the fair had 92 livestock exhibitors, 18 of whom are new to the fair. The 92 exhibitors hail from four counties of southeast Kansas.
Events on Thursday, July 10, include the judging of indoor exhibits at 1 p.m., poultry judging at 5 p.m., rabbit judging at 6 p.m., 4-H ice cream and cake sale at 7 p.m., and the auction of youth exhibitors’ baked goods at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, July 11, events include a breakfast at 7:30 a.m., for fair exhibitors, their families and sponsors. The breakfast will be sponsored by G&W Foods.
A Skillathon contest will be held at 9 a.m.
The livestock judging events will get underway at 5:30 p.m., in the following order: dairy goats, meat goats, sheep, dairy, beef and swine.
The Cherryvale FFA Alumni Association will hold its annual barbecue at 6 p.m., in Logan Park while the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society will sell homemade ice cream and cake at 6:30 p.m.
Announcement of the Kiss the Critter winner will be held at 7 p.m (see accompanying story).
On Saturday, July 12, events include the bucket calf judging at 9 a.m., and the release of exhibits and park cleanup at 10 a.m.
Presentation of awards and premiums will be held after the park clean-up.
Exhibitors are invited back to Logan Park for a free swim at the Cherryvale Swimming Pool from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday, July 13.
