Elk County Livestock - Conservation Tour is June 11

The 71st annual Elk County Livestock and Conservation Tour will be Wednesday, June 11 in the northeast part of Elk County. The tour will begin at the fairgrounds in Howard at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and rolls. Everyone will leave for the first tour stop at 8 a.m. Tour stops and speakers include:
· David Perkins, 2006 Soil Conservation Award Winner - No-Till Farming. At this stop, Doug Jardine, KSU Professor and Extension State Leader, Field Row Crops, will discuss the “Disease Potential for Summer Row Crops.”
· Doug Hendricks – Seeded Bermudagrass. Also at this stop, Colby Flatt of Schering Plough will speak.
· Ken Kelly – EQIP Contract. Ron Radar of the Elk and Chautauqua Counties Natural Resource Conservation Service will talk about the EQIP Program as far as sign up period, dollars available and projects that funds can be used for.
· Doug Hendricks - Angus/Brangus Cross Heifers. During this stop, Rick Nelson, Novartis Animal Health will speak.
· Paul Stewart - Cool Season Grass Hay. At this stop, Gary Kilgore, KSU Emeritus Professor will talk about “Fertilization of Cool Season Grasses and Will Legumes Reduce My Fertilizer Cost.”
The Livestock - Conservation Tour is sponsored by the Elk County Livestock Association, Elk County Cattlewomen, Elk County Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Elk County Extension Council, Novartis Animal Health and Schering - Plough Animal Health.
