Two Severy seniors receive academic honors
Atlanta, GA - April 11, 2008 - The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) today announced that West Elk Junior-Senior High School student Sarah Taliaferro from Severy, Kan., has been selected for membership. The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.
Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources. publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items, and publicity honors.

Wichita, Kan. -Brett Koop of Severy, Kan., has received a five-year $20,000 Dean’s scholarship from Newman University. Koop is the son of Rodney and Tricia Koop. Koop will graduate from West Elk High School this spring and plans on attending Newman University in the fall of 2008. Koop plans to major in pre-physical therapy.
To be eligible for the Dean’s scholarship, a student must have at least a 3.3 GPA and a score of 23 on the ACT or 1060 on the SAT 1.
