Four-wheeler accident claims life near Hale

A 65-year-old Winfield man was killed Sunday from injuries he received in a four-wheeler accident.

Bill W. Dexter had been riding on his land which covers 3,000 acres in Chautauqua County, authorities said.

Chautauqua County Sheriff Frank Green said his department was notified of a missing person in the Hale area and Dexter’s body was later found.
According to the sheriff’s report, the missing person had left early in the morning and was thought to be somewhere on his land. The missing person had access to over 3000 acres of land.

A search party involving 15 search teams from our local C.E.R.T., fire departments, Kansas Highway Patrol ground units and aircraft, Sheriff’s Department, Sedan Police Department, Sedan E.M.S., and local residents was quickly dispatched to the area. The search was headed by Chautauqua County Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Department.
