The Oswego Chamber of Commerce will host an Open House with the Oswego Home Place this Friday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. You are invited to welcome the new Administrator Sherry Brown and Director of Nursing, Tanya Cordes. Refreshments will be served.

Chamber President Cindy Dean is excited about having businesses in Oswego to have open houses so we can visit and get to know their business a little better, she said.

A need for a residential facility was built in Oswego in 1993. The Oswego Home Place is located at 1010 South Commerical. This 30-bed facility provides senior citizens the extra comfort to have someone close so they aren’t alone.

“It’s like staying in a motel,” Sherry Brown, administrator said. “We provide housekeeping, laundry, meals and regulate medication to the residents,” she said. Twelve residents live in the Home Place, one married couple, three males and nine females, have made this their home. “We have one resident Curtis Stevens that has been here since it was built in ‘93,” Brown said.

“The residents have their own personal belongings in their rooms. They have freedom here, it is their home, we are just here when they need us. They can come and go when they want and if they have their own vehicle, they can still drive,” she said.

Brown began her administrator duties in June of 2007. She is a 1983 graduate of Oswego High School. She received a business degree in 1998, and an associate nursing degree from NEO in 2003. Brown has a daughter, Courtney, 12 years old, and they live in Oswego. Her parents are Darrell and Barbara Belcher of Oswego.

Tanya Cordes started working as the Director of Nursing in January. She lives in Oswego with her husband, Art and three daughters, Justice, Patience and Morgan.

Leatha Thompson is the dietary supervisor for two years and has recently started managing the activities.

Other staff members include: CMAs – Lorine Westall (since 1993), Katie Wyrick, Charlotte Remington, Melinda Ungles; LPNs – Tanya Cordes and Jane Pape; CNA – Christina Edwards; cook – Carolyn Keith and Bertie Thomas; activities/piano – Shirlene Smith; maintenance – Darren Tynan and Brad Clower.
